EBEN ENASCO REPORTING.
A coalition of All Progressives Congress stakeholders in Edo State has urged the party to prioritise competence, credibility and character in picking candidates for the 2027 general election, with emphasis on the Edo South Senatorial seat.
The group warned that the APC’s chances at the polls will hinge on fielding candidates with proven capacity, grassroots support and integrity.
“The era of sentimental or weak candidacy must give way to merit-based selection if the party hopes to make significant electoral gains in Edo,” Ambassador Igbinovia Usifo said on behalf of the coalition.
The stakeholders endorsed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for the Edo South ticket, describing him as a tested leader with the experience, network and structure to deliver victory for the party.
ADC records defections in Edo Central
In a separate development, the African Democratic Congress has gained ground in Edo Central — the political base of Governor Monday Okpebholo — following a wave of defections from the APC, Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party.
The new members were received in Ewohimi, Esan South East LGA, by ADC State Chairman Tony Alile and party leader Kenneth Imansuagbon.
Party officials described the influx as a “strategic breakthrough” and a major inroad into the governor’s stronghold ahead of future contests.
