4 Brigade emerged the overall champion of the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition 2026, which ended in Benin City, on Thursday.
The week-long contest, hosted at Ekehuan Cantonment, tested junior soldiers on drill, combat swimming, weapon handling, map reading, cross-country races, and obstacle crossing.
Declaring the event closed, Special Guest, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, said the competition had boosted the physical, mental, and leadership skills of participants. His words: _“The lessons here will strengthen our team spirit and operational effectiveness.”_
Earlier, 4 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, said the exercise was designed to sharpen combat proficiency, endurance, and teamwork among corporals and below.
He thanked the GOC 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, for the confidence reposed in the Brigade to host.
At the end, 4 Brigade took first place. 12 Brigade came second, while 2 Division Garrison placed third.
General Adegbite also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for supporting junior ranks — who he called the backbone of the Army.
The closing ceremony featured obstacle contests, award presentations, and group photos, with heads of security agencies in Edo State in attendance.
