The 2026 edition of the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Corporals and Below Competition kicked off on Monday at Ekehuan Barracks in Benin City, with 4 Brigade playing hosts.
Declaring the week-long event open, 4 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, said the exercise is crucial as Nigeria tackles evolving security threats.
He said it will sharpen combat skills, leadership, teamwork and endurance among junior soldiers.
General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, represented by Brigadier General Justin Ifeanyi, charged participants to stay professional.
He assured them of impartial judges and a level playing field.
Events include drill, weapon handling, obstacle crossing, map reading, and combat swimming.
Six formations are taking part, including 4 Brigade, 12 Brigade, 32 Artillery Brigade, and 2 Division Garrison.
The GOC thanked the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for supporting the competition.
Day one featured drill contests, souvenir presentations and group photos, with heads of security agencies in Edo State in attendance.
