Government at all levels and critical stakeholders are called upon to make People With Disabilities, PWDs, feel the essence of belonging to an egalitarian society.

At a project presentation ceremony on the theme: Creation of Alternatives to irregular Migration and Human Trafficking event in Benin City, Participants said they have become concerned about their plights and called for interventions.

The Chairperson of the People with Disabilities in Edo State, Ann Ojuigo believes that they have not been carried along with intervention priorities and hope that through the various future programs they are Considered First.

While addressing the issues of training and empowerment, Ojuigo noted that when PWDs are equipped, she is sure they will turn it around.

The Program Coordinator for IDRC, Saliu Braimoh, who spoke on behalf of other collaborators argued that the project was carefully designed to accommodate all strata including Persons with disabilities in the state who had been earmarked among the four hundred and fifty to be trained.

The Zona Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Benin, Nduka Nwanwenne, the Chief Imam Benin Mosque, Abdul Fatai Enabulele, and Comrade Jude Obasanmi of Jose Maria Escravos, all agreed that the event was timely.

This, they said, will encourage Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, MDA’s needs assessment for all participants while calling on the MDAs, to bond with other relevant stakeholders in the attainment of the set objectives.

The maiden edition of the event billed to accommodate four hundred and fifty trainees in Edo State with a special focus on skill acquisition including hair and Soap Makings is part of the Project Presentation Ceremony, organized by IDRC, IDEAS, Love, and others founded by the European Union and the British Council in Collaboration with Agent For Citizens- Driven Transformation in the State.
