The Oredo Government Council has unveiled the project Clean and Green Oredo, CGO, an initiative aimed at expanding environmental policy and waste reduction footprint across the city.

The 5-day clean-up exercise themed; “Beat Plastic Waste” is to commence on Monday, March 4, 2024, where enforcers are expected to be positioned at strategic places within the council to ensure plastic wastes are kept away from the street.

Addressing stakeholders at the Council’s Secretariat, the Executive Chairman Dr. Tom Obaseki who also doubles as the coordinator charged all staff of the council and members of the public to join hands with the government in the actualization of the one-week project to make Oredo clean and safer for inhabitants.

According to him the work plan for the 5-day sanitation exercise with the theme: “BEAT PLASTIC WASTE” is categorized into Six groups that will commence on Monday 4th and end on Friday 8th of March 2024.

Monday, March 4, 2024, which is day one of the clean-up exercises for group one, he said, will take off from Lagos Street at Ring Road to Iyaro, Tuesday, March 5, 2024, day two; Uselu Lagos Road from Dawson to Mission Road, Wednesday, March 6, 2024, day three, Sakpoba Road from Ring Road to 2nd Junction while Thursday, March 7, 2024, and day four starts from Mobil Ekewuan road to Erediauwa axis.

Group two, according to him, will start the exercise from Mission Road to Cook Road junction on day one, on March 4, 2024, the day two of the exercise will start from Uselu Lagos Road by Mission Road to Urubi Five junction; day three first East Circular From Sokponba Road To Sapele Road, day four, Oba Market to Oliha Market, while day five, 2nd East Circular from Sapele Road to Nekpenekpen.

Group three, they are to start day one at Mission Road from Cook Road to New Benin, day two 1st east circular from Akpakpava to Esigie; Day 3, 3rd East Circular From Sokponba Road To Icc,
day 4 Oliha Market By T.V Road To 5 Junction.

Group four, 4th March 2024 – Ibiwe From Ring Road To Oliha Market Through Isekhere To Ore-oghene, Day 2, 5th March 2024, 1st east circular road by Sokponba Road to Esigie; Day 3, Akpakpava from the ring road to Agbado, Day four, Lawani Iyaro to new Benin, and Day Five – Ezoti From Airport Road to reservation road to end in golf course road

Group Five, March 4, 2024, day one, Ibiwe From Evbiemwen to Iyaro, day 2, 5th March 2024 – Sapele Road From Ring Road To 3rd East, Day 3- Akpakpava Road From Agbado To 3rd Junction, Day 4, New Lagos Road 2nd East Circular To New Benin, Day 5 – Airport Road From Ring Road To Airport Road

Group Six, Day One, March 4, 2024 – Wire Road to 5 Junction, Day 2 – Oba Palace & Its Environ, Day 3- Plymoth Road To Ekenwan Road day4 – New Benin To Eghosa, Day 5- Abehe Street, Iwebo Street, Ekpenede Street & obakhaye street.

Meanwhile, the Oredo Government Council has placed a ban on all street trading around King Square, as part of new measures to check the spread of waste disposal in the city.

A statement released on Friday by the Secretary to the Council Dr. Wellington Osadolor disclosed that
the restriction covers 100 meters away from King Square across adjoining roads and will last for 24- hours daily.

The statement added that by the notification, hawkers of drinks, water, food vendors, Squats, and other related trading activities around the said outlawed trading areas are Prohibited and anyone found flouting the notification order will face the full wrath of the law.
