The independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is convinced that to achieve a peaceful election in the country, there is a need to sensitize critical stakeholders and put them on the same page in the conduct of various election procedures.

This was the outcome of a one-day Sensitization event held, Tuesday at the Police officer’s Mess in Benin City, the Edo State Capital between the electoral umpire and Various Security Agencies, ahead of the 2023 general election.

Speaking shortly after the sensitization event to journalists, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Edo State OBO AFFANGA says it became important to sensitize the security operatives in the state to give them an understanding of how the commission intends to function ahead of the election.

Effanga maintained that the role of Security operatives can’t be undermined if they are prepared to have hitch-free elections.

He explained some of the reasons for the gathering of the critical stakeholders including introducing the Bimodal Voter Registration System, BVAS, machines to get first-hand information on how to use them for the conduct of the 2023 general elections in the state

On his part, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Dankwara Mohammed who led other Sister Security Agencies in the state vowed to make the election peaceful despite identifying some flash points that require addressing.

While confirming that there had been a series of meetings between the collaborators, the Police gaffer, reaffirmed their commitment to having credible conduct in the 2023 elections.
