Edo State Government says achieving a Platinum is its main objective during the forthcoming Okpekpe Ten Kilometer’s Race.

It said the administration is more than willing to up its efforts in achieving a world-class performance during the event.

At the unveiling event of the official face mask as well as flagging off of the 8th Edition of the 10-kilometer Okpekpe Road Race, billed for May 28, 2022, State Governor Godwin Obaseki said a board of trustees would be set up so that the race will outlive the present government and become institutionalized.

Obaseki, however, noted that the state government will follow all laid down rules while warning against doping conducts by athletes who will be participating during the event.

He urged participating athletes to obey all existing COVID-19 rules despite landmark successes recorded in the fight against the scourge.

While admonishing youths to embrace the sport, the governor enumerated some benefits including reducing insecurity with the window of job opportunities created.

On their part, Principal Organizers of Okpekpe Road Race, and Chairman of Padmozi Sports, Mike Itemuagbor alongside the Technical Consultant, Zak Amodu said the event is on the verge of being institutionalized, even as they hailed the existing collaborations between them and the state government.

They assured the public of
a bigger and more funded race when the competition kickoff.

Okpekpe Race first came into the limelight 13-year Ago and has since become an annual event in Edo State, Nigeria.
