Edo State Police Command, says Seven victims along the dreaded Benin-Auchi Road have been rescued from their abductors.
The police statement informed that,the incident happened on Sunday, at Okwo Village few meters away from the popular Ogbemudia farm, Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state.
The command further disclosed that, a gange member of the suspected abductors was shot dead after an intensive gun duel that lasted for few hours when the police operatives attempted to rescue the unsuspected members of a passenger vehicles near the City Center.
In a statement made available by the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Sp Kontongs Bello, said some arms and amunition were recovered from one of the dead abductor.
SP Bello revealed that, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Ehor Division, CSP Benefa Benjamen, haven received credible information, reportedly mobilized his team of police operatives and the military at Ehor to the scene.
The combined team was said to have sighted a Passat GL vehicle with Reg. No. BEN 628 MS discovered to have veered off the road, towards a palm tree with the driver’s name unknown stocked on the steering and unconscious.
According to the statement, the driver had earlier sustained bullet wounds on his Head and Thigh alongside another female passenger identified as Awoma Jerry age, 28-year-old who also sustained injury on her knee and thigh as a result of the sporadic shooting from the armed hoodlums.
The injured victims were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The statement released pointed that, the seven victims rescued unhurt, include, Lucky Ebuade, Flora Ebude, ASP Joseph Okoh, Tina Okiti, Adamu Danusa, Hassan Mohammed and Tolba Masamavi who had since, been profiled and asked to continue their journey.
SP Bello noted that, during the process of intensive bush combing, one of the
kidnappers submitted to the superior fire power of the team and was gun down, as others fled into the forest while they sustained various degrees of injury during the operation.
In another development elsewhere, Operatives of the Edo State Police Command in collaboration with the local vigilante and hunters on Monday, foiled an attempt to kidnap ten fresh passengers by suspected kidnapping gang, who accosted a Toyota Hiace Bus with Reg. No. AB 14 TR along Igueben Opoji road while conveying corpse from Taraba State to Iruekpen in Edo State for burial.
Six out of the Ten passengers were said to have been rescued by the police operatives who acted on information received by the Divisional Police officer, DPO, Ekpoma Division, CSP Bukoye Oyegbemi.
The statement, however, reiterated the commissioner of police, Philip Ogbadus’ resolves to combat criminality in the state, while advising criminal elements to change their ways or risk been apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.
