Police Operatives in Edo State, have paraded two suspected persons in connection with the Okomu oil facility’s attack that left unarmed excavator operator dead and fire set on the plantation destroying about 20 hectares of rubber plantation.
The Suspects, Lucky Clark, 52-year-
old and Destin Titibor 22-year-old was said to have been intercepted in Okomu waters while gliding a local boat loaded with Cup lumps from rubber latex suspected to be proceeds from the plantation
Speaking shortly while parading the suspects, the state police image maker, SP Kontongs Bello said on the investigation, the items loaded on the local boat were discovered to be property stolen from the Okomu oil company.
Bello said the suspects are to face possible court charges on completion of their investigations
In the meantime, one of the suspected criminals Lucky Clark denied Stealing a caked rubber Latex otherwise called cup-lump from the rubber Plant facility, saying that, he was only returning from Ondo state where he procure the items when he was apprehended in Okomu waters by the police.
He maintained that he had been into the business spanning over 32 years and could not have stolen.
His claims, were, however, faulted and frowned at by his suspected accomplice, Destin Titibor who said he was only hired by the Prime suspect to sail the items from Okomu water, the point where the items were reportedly loaded into the local boat heading to Sapele, Delta State.
Recall that, Okomu Oil Palm Company suspended its operations in the aftermath of the incident described by its management as a “terrorist attack”.
The managing director, who spoke through the company’s Communications Officer, Fidelis Olise, at the company’s headquarters in Okomu, near Iguobazuwa in Ovia North-East Local Government, said it would cost them about 100,000 dollars equivalent to N50 million Naira to replant the 20 hectares and bring it up to its present years of maturity over the next seven years.
The Commissioner of Police, Philip Ogbadu, who confirmed the incident said the police had launched an investigation, adding that, criminals must now look elsewhere.
