Things Fall Apart: Lagos Contractor Sues Wife, Police for N100m Over Father’s Unlawful Arres

Eben Enasco Reporting.

Yusuf Tasleem, a Lagos-based contractor, has reportedly filed a N100 million lawsuit against his wife, Aisha Mohammed Sani, and the Nigeria Police Force for an alleged unlawful arrest and detention of his father for three days.

The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court’s Abuja Judicial Division, names four respondents, including; The Nigeria Police Force,
The Lagos State Police Commissioner, The Area
Commander of Lion Building, Lagos
Aisha Mohammed Sani the applicant’s wife

The applicant, Yusuf Tasleem, alleges that the police, acting on Aisha’s instructions, unlawfully arrested and detained his father, Shettima Fasasi Yusuf, for three days, subjecting him to inhumane treatment and torture.

He further alleged that his father’s arrest and detention were carried out despite a pending divorce and child custody case before the Upper Area Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, involving the applicant and his wife, Aisha Mohammed Sani.

Tasleem’s marriage became rocky when his wife refused to care for their three children Khalid, 10; Mohammed, 8; Hauwa, 5 and emotionally detached herself.

Yusuf Tasleem met his wife, Aisha Mohammed Sani, at Kaduna State Polytechnic, leading to a marriage blessed with three children: Khalid 10, Mohammed 8, and Hauwa 5.

He supported her educational pursuits up to a master’s degree and secured employment for her at his father’s school in Kogi State and later in Lekki, Lagos.

However, Tasleem alleged a drastic change in his wife’s behavior: “She began returning home late, abandoning our children to fend for themselves.

Despite my efforts to address these issues through family and religious channels, her neglect persisted.”

Tasleem’s wife abandoned him and their children, leaving all domestic responsibilities, including cooking and laundry, to him. In one incident, neighbors intervened just in time to prevent a fire when the children, left unattended, struggled with cooking as the gas cylinder exploded due to their mother’s tardiness.

Despite reporting her neglect to authorities and religious organizations without improvement, Tasleem relocated his children to his father’s Lokoja residence. His father enrolled them in his school and informed the wife of their new arrangement. She subsequently visited the children.

However, on October 12, 2024, Tasleem alleged: “Police from Lion Building Area Command, accompanied by my estranged wife, stormed my father’s private school, subjected him to dehumanizing treatment, and unlawfully detained him for three days at their Lagos station.”

The applicant seeks a declaration that: The respondents’ raid and ransacking of his peaceful home constitutes unlawful trespass.

Abducting his children to hand over to the 4th respondent wife amidst pending divorce and custody proceedings Upper Area Court, Lokoja is illegal, unconstitutional, null, and void.

No date has been fixed yet for the hearing of the suit, according to multiple sources.
