A mobile police officer, Thursday opened fire on Protesting Niger Delta Student in Benin City, Edo State.

The yet to be identified Mobil Police Operative, was said to have shot at the right leg of a resilient female protesting student who was part of the protesters at the NPDC SECRETARIAT demanding for transparency from the Corporation.

Students of the Institution had embarked on peaceful protest since the commencement of the two days Seminar programs over a suspected diversion of items approved for them on The Nigerian Petroleum Industry Bill

Some of their demands Include, blue prints of the approved items and total amount approved for the two days training.

A development that has raised serious concerns, leading to the blocking of the entrance and exit gates of the NPDC.

While the students had chanted with various placards an end to the alleged corrupt practices by those handling the affairs, they claimed they will continue to push until their voices are heard

In the meantime, the managing Director of The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company NPDC Ltd a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, was said to be away to attend his daughter’s nuptial knot ceremony slated for Friday.

As at the time of filing-in this report no statement have been released by either the police or the NPDC’s Management to confirm or deny the shooting incident.
