Dr. Washington Osifo, a seasoned administrator and politician, has received endorsement from his kinsmen in Ward 5 Umagbai north, All Progressive Congress, APC, just 24 hours after resigning as Edo State Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy.

The move is seen as a significant one, given that the ward is also represented by incumbent lawmaker Chief Billy Osawaru, who may be considering seeking re-election ahead of the ruling All Progressive Congress party, APC, primary nomination ahead of the Uhunmwonde/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency seat.

Dr. Osifo’s endorsement in Chief Osawaru’s ward is, however, seen as a significant boost to his campaign, amid speculation about Chief Osawaru’s chances of re-election.

His resignation was in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s directive, allowing public officials to pursue electoral ambitions.

Dr. Osifo’s supporters believe he is the best contestant to represent the party and the people, citing his commitment to public service and track record of delivering results.

Addressing journalists shortly after his endorsement, Dr. Washington Osifo highlighted the importance of integrity based pedigree stating why he resigned.

He added that he is only committed to that which is noble by resigning to focus on his political ambitions and beat all hurdles ahead of the primary election .

He emphasised the need to embark on early mobilization for votes to convince the party stakeholders in the 22 wards across the constituency, comprising 10 wards in Uhunmwonde and 12 wards in Orhionmwon, describing it as massive.

Dr. Osifo, though believes it is a huge task, but expressed confidence, stressing that, it is a familiar terrain for him to express his willingness to provide dividends of democracy to his constituents.

He noted that the new move will enable him to remind his eligible voters, leaders and colleagues in his Constituency that he can’t undermine the power of their votes saying; “we are not strangers because the vote of this people is what will make the difference and we have the advantage”.

Dr. Osifo assures that from time to time he will continue to do what is right to get the voting numbers.

Incumbent Chief Billy Osawaru Representing Uhunmwonde/Orhionmwon Federal Constituency in the lower Chamber of the National Assembly, is expected to face a tough battle for re-election in the upcoming All Progressive Congress APC, National House of Representatives primary election.

Dr. Osifo, a former Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy in Edo State, has a strong background in governance and public policy. His academic and professional credentials, including a Ph.D in Comparative Politics and Development, have earned him recognition as a principled and experienced leader.

The primary election is expected to be intense, with several candidates vying for the APC ticket.
