The University of Benin Teaching Hospital’s, UBTH, Cataract Screening and Subsidized Surgery Programme has exceeded expectations, screening over 1,000 patients in just three days.
The programme, led by the Department of Ophthalmology, offers free consultations and subsidized surgeries, providing critical eye care to patients from across Nigeria’s South-South states.
Since the programme began on Wednesday, over 1,000 Patients have been screened within the period under review.
The Hospital has witnessed Free Consultations including Cataract screenings and eye care services as well as affordable cataract surgery for patients in need.
The programme has earned accolades for UBTH’s CMD, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, and is seen as a beacon of hope for those with impaired vision.
The initiative aligns with the federal government’s efforts to improve healthcare access under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership.
