The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has petitioned the Federal Government, alleging a planned N20bn “emergency refurbishment” contract at the Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN, could drain public funds and worsen the country’s electricity transmission woes.
In a letter to Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, titled “Stop the bleeding in TCN before it collapses,” signed by the NLC President, Joe Ajaero accused TCN officials of orchestrating a procurement scheme disguised as urgent repairs.
NLC is concerned that the N20bn contract could be “double-dipping” and enrich private individuals
TCN’s transmission network which sits at the centre of the country’s electricity supply chain, is already struggling with frequent grid failures, a development the NLC is seeking clarity on the emergency refurbishment programme
TCN operates Nigeria’s national electricity transmission network, moving power from generating plants to distribution companies that supply homes and businesses.
Reacting when contacted, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah says the company hasn’t seen the NLC letter but promised to respond after review.
