The Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa Foundation, OLEEF, in partnership with the Africa Cataract & Eye Foundation and the Edo State Ministry of Health, is hosting a free eye care to mark the legacy of compassion and service of the late Benin Queen.
On March 12, 2026, 100 beneficiaries are expected to receive free cataract surgeries at Madona Hall, St Paul Catholic Church, Benin City.
A joint statement issued ahead of the event on Wednesday and signed by Pastor Sylvester Ebhodaghe on behalf of OLEEF, and the Edo State Ministry of Health, disclosed that the Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa Foundation will provide 100 free prescription glasses for school children, 200 reading glasses for adults, and post-surgery medication to those in need, as part of their upcoming eye care event.
The initiative, according to the statement, is aimed at improving access to quality eye care for vulnerable and underserved populations.
While addressing the growing burden of avoidable blindness caused by cataracts and other preventable eye conditions, a humanitarian gesture is being organized in honor of Her Royal Highness Queen Evbagharu Erediauwa the Obarisiuwa N’Erie, who passed on on August 20, 2016.
Oloi fondly referred to as Queen Evbagharu Erediauwa was one of the beloved wives of His Royal Majesty, Oba Erediauwa.
The Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa Foundation, OLEEF, was established seven years after her passing to honor the Queen’s legacy of compassion, service, and community dedication.
The Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa Foundation has consistently uplifted the less privileged through impactful programs, including educational support, women’s empowerment, and girl child development initiatives, touching lives across Edo State and beyond.
The upcoming free cataract surgery and eye care program reflects the Foundation’s dedication to humanitarian service, embodying the late Oloi Evbagharu Erediauwa’s ideals of love, empathy, and generosity.
All participants are expected to get free medical evaluation, treatment, and surgeries from qualified ophthalmologists led by Dr. Mejuya Okorodudu.
