The Edo State Police Command Says it is investigating attacks on the African Democratic Congress ADC state secretariat and the residence of party chieftain, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, in Benin City.
The command in a statement issued and made available to newsmen in Benin City on the wee hour of Tuesday, by ASP ENO IKOEDEM, the PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, on the incident Details confirmed that some Hoodlums disrupted an ADC event, causing panic and damaging property.
The statement also revealed that One woman was injured in the stampede, but no casualties were reported.
The hoodlums, according to the statement, chased members away and threw furniture in disarray, just as it was, however, noted that the swift intervention of the police made the hoodlum to flee.
Similarly, the State Police Command said it received a distress call about gunshots at the former Governor John Odigie Oyegun’s home and found damage to vehicles, including smashed rear windscreens and body parts. Luckily, no one was hurt.
The Statement further claimed the Police have reinforced security and launched a full-scale investigation.
The Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika, the statement revealed has invited party leaders to discuss peaceful political activities, warning that violence won’t be tolerated.
While stating that he has ordered the commencement of a full-scale investigation into the incidents with a view to identifying, apprehending, and prosecuting the perpetrators, Agbonika urged members of the public to remain calm and provide useful information that can aid ongoing investigations.
