Edo State NDLEA says it has arrested 56 suspects, including 34 males, 22 females with 2,167.74kg of drugs seized in February.

Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, the State Commander of the Agency disclosed this in Benin City on Thursday, while presenting the command’s scorecard for the month of February.

The seizure, according to Ofoyeju has taken significant illicit drugs out of circulation, thanks to a series of intelligence-led operations across Edo State which marks a major win in the fight against drug trafficking.

Highlighting some of their key successes recorded within the period under review, Dr. Ofoyeju revealed that 3 cannabis farms measuring 0.506739 hectares were destroyed. He added that 1,266.85kg estimated yield was prevented from circulation in operations driven by intelligence-led efforts.

Dr. Ofoyeju attributed the February’s figures to the Command’s dedication and NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Marwa’s directives just as he highlighted some of the challenges posed by cannabis cultivation in hard-to-reach areas.

He called for an enhanced logistics needed to tackle cannabis cultivation in inaccessible terrains adding that the illicit drugs and substances seized include 900.89 kilograms.

While praising the gallant efforts of his operatives, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, State Commander, reaffirms NDLEA’s commitment to curbing drug trafficking to create a safer, drug-free society for the citizens.
