The Super Eagles of Nigeria have redeemed its image after narrowly defeating Guinea-Bissau at Estadio Nacional 24 de Setembro in the return leg of the Africa Cup of Nations Cup qualifying match.
The only goal of Monday’s night game came when super-eagles defender Bright Osayi was hacked down at the penalty box by Guinea-Bissau defender Fally Kande leading to a spot kick neatly converted by Simon Moses in the 40th minute to put the Eagles ahead of the Djurtus.
The second half recorded a barren draw as both sides leveraged on weaknesses but could not find a score line during the open play before the referee signal the end of the encounter.
The Super Eagles, three-time African champions, were stunned by the Djurtus in Abuja four days ago but roared back in Bissau to exact their revenge with nine points from four games.
The Super Eagles were condemned to defeat Guinea-Bissau and coach Jose Peseiro named a strong lineup after the Portuguese tactician who had been under criticism made five changes from the team that lost one nil to the Djurtus at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Friday.
The eagles would have to avoid defeat when they lock horns with Sierra Leone away and Sao Tome and Principe at home, to book their spot at the next edition of the AFCON.
