The Edo State under-17 male Cricket club, has commenced the 2021/2022 tournament with a walkover victory against the University of Benin Cricket Club of Benin.
The first game of the cricket season, was billed for Saturday at the Edo Boys High School, where the University of Benin Cricket Club, was expected to lock horns with the State Under-17 Cricket Club Team, failed to turn up for the match.
Failure to attend the match, implies that, the State under 17 Cricket Team was awarded Four additional points by match umpires.
Speaking shortly after the first game of the tournament, the Regional Development Officer, Nigeria Cricket Federation, NCF, Theophilus Ibodeme, said Eight Clubs are competing for Glory, with one team expected to be Champion.
Ibodeme, however, revealed that, the female category will commence January 15, 2022, according to plans harbored by the league Committee.
The Acting Head Coach of the State Under- 17 Cricket Association, Joseph Okonobo, and the Captain of Under 17 CC Prosper Useni, voiced their concerns over the failure of the visiting opponent and their expectations.
In the first Innings, AAU Cricket Club scored 82 runs for the loss of 10 wickets in 14.5 overs, as Success Eguasa of AAU CC scored 19 runs.
Emmanuella Imoseimi of Integrity Force Cricket Club bowled 3 wickets in 4 overs for 18 runs.
The second match between AAU Cricket Club and Integrity Force Cricket Club ended in favor of the later who won the toss and elected to Bat.
For the Second Innings, Integrity Force Cricket Club scored 85 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 16 overs. However, Integrity Force CC won by 5 wickets.
The likes of Vincent Adewoye and Nzube Nwokike of Integrity Force CC scored 29 and 22 runs respectively. Victory Akhigbe of AAU CC bowled 2 wickets in 4 overs for 16 runs.
The Man of the Match, however, went to Vincent Adewoye of Integrity Force Cricket Club.
