Ambrose Alli University: 167 Medical Graduates Demand Induction After 10 years of studie

Eben Enasco Reporting.

A peaceful protest erupted at Ambrose Alli University AAU, in Ekpoma, Edo State, as 167 medical graduates demonstrated against their non-induction into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria MDCN six months after graduation.

The students, who spent over a decade in medical school, expressed frustration and disappointment at the delay.

The spokesperson for the students, Precious Omohegbele, highlighted the struggles they faced during their 10-year journey in medical school. Despite graduating on August 15, 2024, they have yet to be inducted into the MDCN.

Omohegbele appealed to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, to intervene and resolve the crisis, emphasizing that induction is necessary for them to proceed with their housemanship.

In response to the protest, Governor Okpebholo assured the students that his administration would investigate the circumstances surrounding the delay in their induction.

He acknowledged the students’ concerns and promised to take necessary actions to address the issue.

The protest has brought attention to the plight of these medical graduates, and others who are eager to begin their careers in a state where medical professionals are few and many have abandoned the country over poor welfare and gone abroad for greener pasture.

It is essential for the relevant authorities to expedite the induction process, ensuring that these qualified professionals can contribute to the healthcare system without further delay.
