A devastating attack attributed to Boko Haram militants has left at least 37 people dead in northern Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Army.
The assault, which targeted a local market, involved motorbike-riding militants who opened fire and set shops and homes ablaze.
Local sources suggest that the actual death toll may be significantly higher, with estimates exceeding 100.
Several residents are still reported missing.
The attack, which occurred on Saturday evening in Yobe State, is believed to be an act of revenge for the killing of two Boko Haram fighters by local forces.
Dangus Abdulkareem, a police spokesperson, confirmed that the militants shot at people hiding in bushes, resulting in numerous casualties.
Boko Haram’s 15-year insurgency in northern Nigeria has claimed thousands of lives and displaced over two million people.
The Islamist militant group, now affiliated with ISIS, continues to wreak havoc, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Edo First Lady Announce Fourth Edition of BOWFT, Touts Impact and Successes

The Edo State First Lady, Betsy Obaseki, has announced that the fourth edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament BOWFT will take place in Benin City from October 2 to 13, 2024.
Addressing journalists at a press conference, Obaseki revealed that this year’s tournament will feature 14 teams, including two international teams from Benin Republic, to make the edition more exciting.
The participating teams include top female football clubs from across Nigeria, as well as Espoir FC de Cotonou and Aigle Royal d’Adjara from Benin Republic.
Obaseki emphasized that BOWFT aims to groom and empower the girl-child, promote grassroots sports development, and create opportunities to inspire young girls.
This year’s edition is themed “Say No to Teenage Pregnancy and Child Motherhood,” highlighting the tournament’s focus on social awareness and community impact.
Since its inception in 2020, BOWFT has made significant strides, providing a platform for young girls to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams.
Obaseki proudly noted that the tournament has grown remarkably, making a lasting impact on the lives of young girls and promoting women’s football in Nigeria.
