The Ministry Of Agriculture and Rural Development is convinced that equipping local farmers with the management of Tomato and casava crop planting will increase its productivity.
At a one-day training and empowerment program held in Benin City, Edo State Capital, where smallholder farmers including youths and women in the Southern part of Nigeria were guided on cash crop planting operations, the facilitators said the aim was geared toward encouraging a more productive venture in agricultural produce.
Dr Edward Izevbigiegie the project Manager Agricultural Development Project, ADP, told participants that, outside the opportunity offered by the program, the government is also projecting food sufficiency for all seasons for tomato production in the region, urging them to put in efforts to pay keen interests in the initiative.
The resource person, Hope Osaro, in his presentation, said it was proper for the participants to go through some level of training to increase their productivity

AFAN Chairman expressed satisfaction, calling for more such programs to build confidence for Smallholder farmers in the state.
