The Edo State House Of Assembly says plans are underway to adopt and push for a new semblance approach within the security architecture to tackle insecurity in the state.

Rt Hon Maria Omozele Edekor, Chairperson of the House Committee on Security and Public safety, spoke to journalists after Wednesday’s stakeholders meeting at the Chief Antony Enahoro Complex, emphasizing the need for a hybrid security model combining state and community efforts to tackle threats and foster trust.

The move follows the recent rise in kidnappings and robberies across the state with key areas targeted include rural hotspots and border towns.

The former Deputy Speaker emphasized that the stakeholders invited to the meeting are tasked with providing comprehensive strategies to tackle the surge in insecurity, as well as highlighting specific challenges hindering effective security measures for further review and action.

She lauded the Governor’s dedication to creating a crime-free society, noting that the same security structure will be replicated across the state’s three regions.

Majority Leader and committee member, Hon. Jonathan Ibhawu, affirmed the committee’s resolve to address the crime surge. He noted that the outcomes of the stakeholder engagement will yield tangible results, benefiting all.

Heads of Security formations in Edo State, including, the Nigeria Police Force, Military, Civil Defense Corps, DSS, NDLEA, Customs, Edo State Security Service, Commissioner for Public Safety & Security and Representatives of Forest Guards attended the state Security meeting.

With the new strategy and spirited efforts on synergy, positive results are expected to tame the rise in insecurity in the State in no distance time.
