Eben Enasco Reporting.
The Edo State Special Security Squad has arrested 31 suspected cultists in a series of coordinated raids in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area, as part of efforts to curb cult-related violence.
The operation, code-named “Operation Flush Out Kidnapping and Cultism,” was carried out on November 16, 2025, following a violent clash between rival cult groups on November 13, 2025, which left one person hospitalized.
The raids, led by the Chief Security Officer and Principal Security Officer to Governor Monday Okpebholo, targeted known hideouts in Osigbemhe Lane, Okhenlen-Uromi; Arue Street, Ivue-Uromi; and Ewoyi axis of Uromi.
Incriminating items, including battle axes, cult insignia, charms, and drugs, were recovered, linking the suspects to the recent fracas.
Two alleged ringleaders, Gift and Ache, are still at large, and their properties have been sealed pending further investigations.
The Squad has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the fleeing suspects to surrender themselves for questioning, warning of decisive consequences if they fail to do so.
Squad Coordinator, Idemudia Noah, stated that the government has a zero-tolerance policy on cultism and will prosecute all arrested individuals.
The operation also revealed the involvement of underage individuals in criminal activities, prompting the government to consider taking legal action against parents of minors involved in crime.
The Edo State Government has assured the public of its commitment to safeguarding communities and restoring public confidence.
