The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Edo State Command, has seized two Sienna buses carrying 1,455 kg of cannabis, following a dawn operation on October 29, 2025.
According to the NDLEA Edo State Commander, Dr Mitchell Ofoyeju, the buses were intercepted at the Okhokho-ISI community route in the Uhunmwode Local Government Area, with the drivers making a hasty escape.
The seized vehicles, a light blue Toyota Sienna EPE 545 EV and a dark ash Toyota Sienna ABC 142 CD, contained 666 kg and 789 kg of cannabis, were said to have commenced their journey at Okpuje, a community that is notorious for cannabis cultivation and trafficking.
The NDLEA says it is investigating and pursuing leads to apprehend the traffickers.
Dr Ofoyeju warned drug traffickers to cease operations, stating, “We are prepared and committed to enforcing the law with unprecedented measures against harmful substances and their distributors. Those who think they can evade the law and exploit our communities through illicit drug trade should have a rethink”.
He encouraged the public to report suspicious activities, and the NDLEA reassures its commitment to a drug-free Edo State.
He echoed that the fight against drug abuse and trafficking is a shared responsibility, adding that with collective effort, a brighter, safer future is our collective target.
