The Edo State Sports Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing grassroots sports development in the state.

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, recently at his office in Benin City gave the remarks when the South-South Taekwondo Representative, led by Victoria Bedeleri David, paid him a courtesy visit

Hon. Enabulele said the Commission’s commitment to supporting Taekwondo and other sporting disciplines in Edo State, remains on grassroots development and nurturing talents from the ground up, in line with the SHINE Agenda of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

Enabulele also congratulated Team Edo on their outstanding performance at the 4th Edition of the Youth Empowerment Foundation Female Taekwondo Championship held in Benin City, which featured participation from eight states and two clubs.

Hon. Enabulele: “Our focus remains on grassroots development. We are committed to partnering with organizations and initiatives that promote youth engagement and sports excellence.”

On her part, Victoria Bedeleri David expressed their satisfaction with the state commission’s contributions to sports development particularly in Taekwondo.

David highlighted the success of the recent Taekwondo Championship held in Benin City, which was made possible with the assistance of the Commission.

She emphasized the need for sustained collaboration with the Edo State Sports Commission to ensure the continuous hosting of major Taekwondo championships in the state.

According to her, “We are impressed with the Commission’s initiatives and contributions to sports development in Edo State, We appreciate their support and hospitality, which have greatly aided the growth of Taekwondo in the region.”

Present at the meeting were Head Coach, Arthur Omoregbee Adomri, and Salami Momodu, Secretary of the association.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the media officer Edoko Wilson Edoko disclosed that Team Edo won a total of 22 medals, comprising 6 Gold, 7 Silver, and 9 Bronze.

In POOMSAE, Stephanie Otaigbe (Gold), Justina Ude (Gold), Happiness Adremo (Silver), while in Senior 49kg Category: Iwinosa Usifoh (Gold), Stephanie Otaigbe (Gold), Akpan Favour (Cadet – Gold).

Silver Medalists, include Constance Osaigbovo (+67kg), Judith Usifoh (-67kg). In the Under-10 Category, Osifo Confidence (Gold), Efe Agege (Silver), Gabriella Elaiho (Bronze)
