The Edo State Police Command says plans are underway to prosecute 37 suspects involved in gender-based violence and child protection cases.

Addressing Journalists on some of its achievement during the period under review at the State Command on Saturday, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, said the suspected violators were allegedly involved in rape and domestic abuse.

He assured of the Command firm stance against perpetrators of gender-based violence and child abuse in the state.

Similarly, the police commissioner Monday Agbonika also said the command arrested Seven Suspected Kidnappers, Seven suspected arm rubbers and Two Suspected murderers, where forty eight kidnapped victims were rescued during its operations.

On the recovery of firearms, the Commissioner revealed that, eight fire arms including AK 47 riffle, 56 live ammunition with five expanded cartridges, nine vehicles, eighteen motorbikes, six car master keys, Ten University of Benin Access cards, twenty seven android and nine apple phones as well as two POS, machines were recovered.

Highlighting the progress recorded in its crackdown on cult related crimes in the state, COMPOL Agbonika stated that the command has successfully disrupted initiations in key hotspot within Benin, Auchi and Ekpoma leading to the arrest of 38 suspected cultists and various leaders of rival groups.

To strengthen the newly established community safety partnership initiative by the command, Agbonika said Divisional Police Officers, DPOs, and Area Commanders across the state are now undergoing training on informal policing through the deployment of Community Policing officers.

CP Agbonika attributed the achievements to the collaboration of Edo People, assuring police continued commitment to securing life and property in the state.

He maintained that the police command has been working tirelessly to combat these heinous crimes, and the upcoming prosecution of these suspects serves as a warning to potential offenders.
