Eben Enasco Reporting.
The Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane, has shed light on the reasons behind the sacking of the education consultant engaged before her appointment.
According to Hon. Ebanehita, the consultant refused to grant her access to the contents developed to teach pupils in public schools.
During her tenure, Hon. Ebanehita discovered that the examples used to teach children were not only unfamiliar but also alien to the Edo people’s culture.
She expressed her concerns, stating that several meetings held with the consultant revealed that their contents were not in line with the vision of the Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.
Hon. Ebanehita highlighted the governor’s commitment to education, noting that he has paid the UBEC counterpart funding.
She revealed plans to renovate 100 public primary schools across the state, aiming to improve the learning environment for pupils.
However, the SUBEB chairman expressed worry over the activities of vandals in public schools, which pose a significant challenge to the board’s efforts to improve the education sector.
Hon. Ebanehita’s explanation underscores the administration’s commitment to providing quality education that is culturally relevant and aligned with the needs of Edo State.
The sacking of the education consultant is seen as a step towards ensuring that the education system serves the best interests of the state’s pupils and aligns with the governor’s vision for the sector.
