Public/Private Property Vandals: Otedo Youth Group Seeks Government Swift Interventio

The Otedo Youth Union, OYU, is demanding a swift government intervention to address the issue of public and private property vandalization by Iron scrab vendors in their communities as well as other security challenges in Edo South.

The group who made the call in Benin City, on Thursday want an end to the exploitation and destruction of public and Private property, which they claim is being perpetrated by these vendors

They said they have become outraged by the act of vandalism, thievery and gross invasion of public and private residences in the metropolitan communities.

Speaking during the press conference to Journalists, Aguebor Efosa highlighted some of the top priorities in their demands, including; checkmating the influx of scrab vendors, addressing the resurgence of the prohibited Community Development Associations, CDA, and prioritizing the inclusion of indigenous people in the local security formation.

He believes that the rising security challenges in localities are domiciled in the Edo South, spreading and devastating the socio economic progress.

According to him, “most public and private property such as Manhole Covers, Metal Electric street poles, Iron rods, Aluminum Roofing sheet, Solar Energy Panels, Electric wires and Cables, are vandalized, sold in Iron scrab centers domiciled at the city center”.

Continuing, Aguebor hinted that; they see this act being perpetrated by the Iron scrab vendors popularly addressed as “Iron Condemned” as an affront to human dignity, safety concern and a blatant disregard to extant law of the state.

Also rising from the gathering, a co -organizer, Edgar Ogbeetin, warned of the dire consequences, calling on the authority to set up a committee that will monitor the activities of the Iron scrab vendors in Benin City.

Ogbeetin also sought the government regulatory measure to halt the influx of these vendors into Edo South, particularly the out sketch of Benin City.

While the societal awaits the government to take steps to end this alarming situation in Edo State, the Otedo Youth Groups are hopeful that their demands will be met with swift action to address this pressing issue.
