The management of the Museum of West African Art, MOWAA, is upbeat that the facility in Edo State will contribute to local economies by spending on accommodations, dining, and transportation.
This, according to a statement released and made available by the Executive Director and Chairman of MOWAA, Phillip Ihenacho to
newsmen in Benin City, will boost related sectors like hotels, restaurants, and tour services.
MOWAA which aims to attract global cultural tourists, positioning West Africa as a major heritage destination, comparable to museums in Europe and the Americas is poised to enhance the cultural tourism landscape in West Africa.
Ihenacho, believes that monumental initiative in the ongoing development will spring, a celebrated atmosphere in the state and envisioned a space where everyone could feel welcome and as well cater to diverse creative expressions and pursuits.
He said the museum serves as a platform for showcasing and selling traditional crafts, stimulating demand for local handmade goods.
While highlighting some of the benefits with Creative Industry Support and Partnerships with artists and designers, Ihenacho emphasized that it will promote a vibrant creative sector, fostering innovation and economic diversification.
He added that the museum’s operations are expected to stimulate ancillary industries, such as event planning, catering, and construction, especially during major events or expansions, where it will also promote local talents by partnering with the local artisans, just as the museum highlights their work on a global stage, ensuring they benefit economically and gain recognition
MOWAA tourism industry is a significant contributor to global economies, offering diverse revenue streams across various sectors, including training programs for youths in fields like museum management, art conservation, and hospitality equipping them with employable skills.
