SERAP Tasks Tinubu, Shetima On Asset Declarations Public

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project SERAP, has called on President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate transparency leadership by requesting the Code of Conduct Bureau CCB, to make his asset declarations public.

Key demands by the group include
Publicizing own asset declarations,
Encourage Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, state governors, National Assembly leaders, and local government chairmen to do the same.

It said, secrecy facilitates corruption while transparency reduces opportunities for corruption.

Supreme Court decision July 11, 2024 stopping governors from controlling local funds requires implementation.

In the SERAP’s Statement signed by Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, dated December 28, 2024, placed emphasis on transparency in asset declarations which he claimed is crucial, urging President Tinubu to make his declarations public and ensure others follow suit as well as
implement Supreme Court decisions on local government funds.

President Tinubu’s willingness to consider publicizing declared assets during a recent media chat prompted SERAP’s appeal.
