Oredo Legislative Arm Reaffirms Loyalty to Dr. Tom Obaseki, kicks Against Suspension
Eben Enasco Reporting.
The Oredo Government Legislative Arm has pledged to continue to uphold its commitment and support for Dr. Tom Obaseki, Executive Chairman of Oredo Government Council, during a Christmas celebration event in Benin City .
The 12 Legislative members in solidarity, on Wednesday December 25, 2024, joined Dr. Obaseki in sharing gleeful grooving, highlighting harmony, and unison.
Dr. Obaseki and Vice Chairman Hon. Patricia Oghogho Ero’s were democratically elected more than a year ago in a three-year tenure system, but a purported suspension on December 17, 2024, for a period of two months by the Edo State House of Assembly has generated heated debates.
The landmark Supreme Court judgment in Abuja, bolstered by a subsequent High Court ruling in Benin, has unequivocally validated the mandate of the 18 Council Chairmen.
These judgments categorically restrained the Executive and State Legislative arms from interfering, thereby safeguarding democratic principles and upholding the rule of law. This legal affirmation fortifies the Chairmen’s positions, thwarting perceived attempts to undermine democratic processes.
However, in a show of unwavering solidarity, 12 councillors, led by Rt Hon. Harrison Izekor, alongside the Vice Chairman, Hon. Patricia Oghogho Ero reaffirmed their unshakeable loyalty to their Chairman, defying intimidation and resisting enticements, as they stood firm, praising him as a visionary leader whose compassionate governance prioritizes human well-being above all.
The event reinforced collective confidence in Dr. Obaseki’s leadership, ensuring Oredo’s continued growth.
Meanwhile, in a related development, Councillors of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State have dismissed rumours of an impeachment plot against their chairman, Hon. Benedicta Attoh.
Led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Oghuma, the ten councillors declared that no amount of intimidation or enticement would persuade them to turn against their chairman, who they described as a caring and compassionate.
