In a bold move to maintain harmony in the community, 87-year-old Pa Opri Omigie, the Community head of Ikpoba Waterside Community in Edo State, has issued a stern warning to troublemakers to cease their disruptive activities or face the consequences.
In a recent address to newsmen in Benin City, the Octogenarian, Pa Opri Omigie shared valuable insights into the history and harmony of the Ikpoba Waterside Community.
In a significant move to resolve lingering disputes, Odionwere Pa Opri Omigie, accompanied by respected community elders, formally validated Comrade Odion Odijie as the genuine Okaighele of Ikpoba Waterside Community.
This endorsement comes after securing approval from the Palace of the Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II, thereby solidifying Odijie’s position.
He said the Ikpoba Waterside community, located in Oredo and Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Areas, has been home to settlers from various ethnic groups, including the Itsekiri, Urhobo, and Esans.
These settlers, according to him, have predominantly engaged in fishery from time immemorial, contributing to the community’s economic vitality and Edo at large.
Pa Omigie emphasized that community heads are typically selected from among these settlers, who have coexisted peacefully for generations, where he believes that the tradition underscores the community’s commitment to unity and cooperation.
Pa Omigie’s call to action highlights the significance of peaceful coexistence, encouraging individuals to actively seek and pursue peace, a value deeply ingrained in the traditions of the Benin Kingdom and its ancestral heritage.
This emphasis on harmony is essential for creating a society where empathy, understanding, and cooperation thrive.
By promoting peaceful coexistence, Pa Omigie’s leadership fosters an environment where individuals can resolve conflicts amicably, prioritize mutual well-being, and work together towards common goals.
By embracing these values, individuals can contribute to a more harmonious and peaceful community, aligning with the ancestral wisdom and monarchical values of the Benin Kingdom.
This wise leadership is crucial in promoting a sense of unity and stability within the community.
The community head’s warning serves as a reminder that the pursuit of peace is a collective responsibility, requiring effort and commitment from all members. By promoting peace, the community can focus on development and growth, rather than being hindered by conflict.
In the spirit of promoting peace, Pa Omigie’s leadership encourages:
Respect for Diversity: Embracing differences and promoting understanding among community members.
By embracing these values, Ikpoba Waterside Community can thrive as a harmonious and prosperous society, where all members feel valued and respected.
