The Edo State First Lady, Betsy Obaseki, has announced that the fourth edition of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament BOWFT will take place in Benin City from October 2 to 13, 2024.

Addressing journalists at a press conference, Obaseki revealed that this year’s tournament will feature 14 teams, including two international teams from Benin Republic, to make the edition more exciting.

The participating teams include top female football clubs from across Nigeria, as well as Espoir FC de Cotonou and Aigle Royal d’Adjara from Benin Republic.

Obaseki emphasized that BOWFT aims to groom and empower the girl-child, promote grassroots sports development, and create opportunities to inspire young girls.

This year’s edition is themed “Say No to Teenage Pregnancy and Child Motherhood,” highlighting the tournament’s focus on social awareness and community impact.

Since its inception in 2020, BOWFT has made significant strides, providing a platform for young girls to showcase their talents and pursue their dreams.

Obaseki proudly noted that the tournament has grown remarkably, making a lasting impact on the lives of young girls and promoting women’s football in Nigeria.
