Hon. Charity Iguodala Aiguobarueghian, Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, has criticized the APC-led federal government for imposing “false fasting” on Nigerians through the removal of fuel subsidies without adequate consultation and consideration.

The Majority Leader disclosed that
while he is not opposed to subsidy removal, by President Bola Tinubu, lamented the resultant perpetual austerity, skyrocketing food prices, and poverty exacerbation.

Speaking at the twin commissioning of a 500kva transformer in Isihor and Ekiadolor Communities, Ovia North East Local Government Area, Aiguobarueghian lamented the hike in fuel pump price that is now over N900 per liter, exacerbating poverty and forcing families to struggle for daily survival.

Aiguobarueghian described the situation as “false fasting,” where families can only afford one meal per day, while others resort to seeking divine intervention, thereby pretending to embark on fasting in deception.

He emphasized that the PDP-led state government has fulfilled its promises to the people, despite the challenges posed by the federal government’s policies.

He enjoined his constituency to support the candidacy of the PDP in ensuring sustainability.

On his part, the Council Chairman, Hon. Collins Ogbewe appealed to the community to ensure victory for the PDP candidate, highlighting the party’s commitment to education and the people’s interests.

He praised the community as a model for education in Ovia and pledged to maintain its standards.

He urged the people to sustain the transformer and protect it from scavengers from vandalizing the source of power.

Responding on behalf of the Ekiadolor Community, the Second in Command, Pa Pulley Obasuyi, hailed the timely intervention of the government at providing a 500kva transformer to replace the ailing and over-loaded 300kva that had kept the community in continuous darkness for a period.

Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, the representative of Ovia North East constituency 1 in the Edo State House of Assembly and his Local Government Counterpart, Hon Ambassador Collins Ogbewe, have continued to prioritise effortlessly people-centric projects, fulfilling their campaign promises.
