EBEN ENASCO REPORTING
The last years for motorists, commuters and inhabitants at the busy Benin-Sapele Road had been practically chaotic due to the poor conditions of the road.
Navigating through the axis is a palpitation of night mares and a reoccurring concerns for both commuters and inhabitants.
Many who constantly ply through that part have all repeatedly spoken in one direction, describing it a negligence on the part of those saddled with the responsibility of addressing the neck-deep catastrophe.
Motorists and commuters, at the weekend, lamented the deplorable condition of the Benin-Sapele-Warri highway, which they said has been causing vehicular and human traffic, as well as severe damage to vehicles.
With the heightened calls by members of the public now at climax, some road users in Benin City have become more concerned over the remoted attitudes exhibited by the various organs of government in ensuring that the road wears a new look that would perhaps encourage ease of passage.
Worried by the rising tensons emanating from the continued neglects, a Front-line civil rights agitator for Good Governance and founder, One Love Foundation, Chief Patrick Eholor, is reaching out to the Minister of Works and Power, Babatunde Fashola, Edo State Government, Senator Matthew Urhoghide and Engr. Ogbeide Ihama, to urgently address the unbearable hardships caused to commuters and motorists by the deplorable conditions of the Benin- sapele Road.
Chief Eholor is claiming, it is not only unfair, a treatment to the people of the State, but other Citizens who commute through the axis to access other parts of the country.
He expressed deep sadness over government’s continued neglects of the road, and now urging the federal government and all other relevant authorities to work closely to fix the failed portions of the Benin Sapele Road to halt series of accidents that have consumed innocent citizens.
Eholor, who was speaking at a peaceful Protest at the RCC Junction of the failed portions of the Benin/Sapele Road, on Tuesday, recalled, how the Minister openly boasted to Nigerians during one of his party’s electioneering campaigns that, a serious government, should be able to fix power within six months, lamenting that, after six years in power, the Buhari led administration has left the people in darkness while Federal roads are in deplorable conditions.
He is also accusing the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Hon. Ogbeide Ihama and other legislators in the state of not doing enough to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the deplorable State, to ameliorate the untold hardships.
The last months have been practically chaotic, navigating through intersections of the Benin Sapele highways, Whilst vehicular movements had been distorted as road users are made to stay hours attempting to connect other parts of the country.
A development that is generating wider condemnations across the state and calls for improvement on motorable road access.
